The DSR-200 uses the DVCAM format to provide high video and audio quality and reliability for professional use. The 8-bit component digital recording with a 5:1 compression ratio and sampling at the rate of 4:1:1 provides superior picture quality and multi-generation performance.
The DSR-200 is capable of playing back standard size consumer DV format tap. (SP mode only)
Standard size DVCAM cassettes should be used for recording with the DSR-200. With the PDV-184ME (standard DVCAM cassette) it can record up to 184 minutes. With three NP-F930/B Battery Packs in the NPA-10000/B Battery Holder, continuous operation up to six hours (full charge)/330 minutes (normal charge) without zooming or power on/off operation, or 225 (full charge)/210 minutes (normal charge) with zooming and power on/off operation is typical.
The DSR-200 incorporates three 1/3-inch CCDs which contributes to the high fidelity of the DSR-200's color reproduction and the compactness. Each CCD consists of 410,000 pixels (effective 380,000 pixels).
The DSR-200 is capable of PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) digital recording of stereo sound both in the 32kHz mode (4-channel/12-bit nonlinear) and in 48kHz mode (2-channel/16-bit linear). In the 32kHz mode, the DSR-200 records audio on two channels during shooting, and another stereo channel can be added onto it. If a higher sound quality is reuired, equivalent to DAT, record in the 48kHz mode.
The magnesium diecast body of the DSR-200 is lightweight and very robust. The total weight of the DSR-200 with a cassette tape and the NP-10000/B Battery Holder containing three NP-F930/B Battery Packs is 10 lb 8 oz.
The optical Steady Shot function of the DSR-200 compensates for camcorder movement by suing an active prism mechanism. Unlike compensation by frame memories, the optical Steady Shot® function compensates for the movement without deterioration of image quality.
The DSR-200 offers automatic and manual control of focus, iris, gain, white balance, and shutter speed. For instant shooting, the automatic mode is very helpful. The automatic mode can be easily overridden by switching to the manual mode.
The DSR-200 has various shooting modes. In Photo Mode, a clear still frame picture can be recorded for seven seconds along with audio. Interval and frame by frame recording is also possible.
The DSR-200 has two XLR connectors (3-pin) for audio input from professional microphones and audio equipment. Microphone input or line input can be selected by a slide switch.
Basic commands such as recording and playback can be done by the RMT-806 Wireless Remote Controller supplied with the DSR-200.
With its V-wedge shoe, the DSR-200 can be instantly mounted on or detached from the optional VCT-U14 Tripod Adaptor designed for professional use. With the VCT-U14, the DSR-200 can be securely attached to a tripod.
The DSR-200 has a time code capability which allows precise editing. DF (Drop Frame) or NDF (Non Drop Frame) can be selected according to the situation. "DF" synchronizes the time code with the field frequency of the NTSC signal and "NDF" counts the time by real time. With the "TC Reset" button, the time code can be reset to "00:00:00:00".
The DSR-200 incorporates a DV IN/OUT connector based on the IEEE 1394 standard. When connected with another recorder/player with the DV IN/OUT, video/audio and data can be dubbed virtually without any deterioration of quality.NOTE: The program recorded on a consumer DV tape in the DV format cannot be copied to a DVCAM cassette tape with the DSR-200 via the DV IN/OUT.
The DSR-200 is equipped with a LANC interface. By connecting a LANC based recorder or editing system, simple editing is possible.
